Counselling

Counselling can help you discover solutions to your problems, helping you to help yourself through listening, teaching new skills and working on plans you can put into practice.

Our Counselling team works with children, young people, parents, couples, individuals and families and offers help with:

  • behavioural problems
  • abuse (sexual, physical, and emotional)
  • depression
  • grief and loss
  • self esteem
  • eating disorders
  • post traumatic stress disorders
  • anxiety, including phobias and panic attacks
  • anger and violence
  • relationship issues (children, young people, parents, partners, colleagues)

Our counsellors are approved for work with the Family Court and by ACC for sexual abuse.

Group Education

Group education for young people and their families focuses on relationships, violence related issues, depression, grief, loss, inappropriate behaviour, feeling good about yourself and being part of a step family.

Community Family Work

The Community Family Support Service provides support to families in the form of education and life skills, either in your own home or at the Trevor Wilson Centre.

Who can use it? Families with young people 0-25 years experiencing difficulties, who would like to work with an experienced family worker to put a plan in place that will help resolve issues, work towards positive change and strengthen their family. Work can be one-onone or as part of a group, on subjects like:

  • Parenting issues
  • Peer pressure
  • Assertiveness
  • Step family issues
  • Bullying
  • Overcoming the effects of violence
  • Addressing and resolving family conflict
  • Safety issues for young people

Youth Mentoring

Co-facilitated with the Ashburton Safer Community Council, our mentoring programme matches adult volunteers with identified young people to provide the support a child needs to grow and mature in a positive way.

Family Worker in Schools

A service operating from five Mid Canterbury schools. An experienced social worker works with children and their families to support the child's education, health and wellbeing.
