Introducing Family Works

Family Works is the new name for child and family services delivered by Presbyterian Support Upper South Island. In adopting the Family Works name, we are joining what will become a nationwide network of Presbyterian Support organisations delivering services to children, young people, families and communities across New Zealand.

Working as a network also enables us to adopt the Family Works name and philosophy as cost effectively as possible.

Each Family Works region works autonomously with services tailored to meet local community needs. As Family Works , we will continue to offer to Upper South Island the same child and family services we always have –

Development programmes for children/tamariki and young people/rangitahi.

• Social work support and counselling for children/tamariki and their families/whanau facing significant challenges
• Parenting programmes
• Group learning programmes
• Localised community development initiatives

– but we now also have the opportunity to expand, grow and share our expertise more widely, and to add additional services where necessary, reinforcing our commitment to building stronger families within supportive communities across New Zealand.

At the heart of Family Works is the understanding that family life can be challenging, no matter what your experience and resources. So, we work from the basis that strong, self-sufficient families are the best places to grow happy and healthy children and that the family is the backbone of each and every community.

Our work is about empowering families to help themselves as they face the inevitable challenges of family life and to work with them so they can flourish.

In adopting the Family Works name we are not abandoning our Presbyterian Support heritage. Along with presenting a more contemporary, approachable and easily understood face, the new name also supplies many opportunities to better communicate the work we do and raise awareness of it, meaning we can reach more people.
