Who We Are

Mission Statement

Presbyterian Support Southland aims to provide health and welfare services to the people of Southland and the Wakatipu Basin.

A Long Tradition of Caring

A charitable trust we have been in the business of caring for almost 90 years, responding to the special needs of communities in the Southland and Queenstown/Arrowtown areas.

In earlier days the main thrust of our work was residential childcare (orphanages) and it wasn't until 1953 that the first purpose-built home for older people, Peacehaven, was opened.

Over the years we have become a comprehensive agency with a staff of around 400, a team of over 100 volunteers and an annual budget of almost $15 million.

Today our Services for Older People division operates five residential aged care facilities, with a full range of care options, a residential unit for adults under 65 with disabilities and support services for older people who choose to live in the community.

We are also licensed by Child, Youth & Family Services as a Child and Family Support Service under the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1989 and offer a wide range of counselling, support and assistance for children and their families through Family Works.

Structure

Presbyterian Support (Southland) is one of seven autonomous regions operating under the Presbyterian Support brand. Together the seven regions make up one of the largest social service agencies in New Zealand, outside of Government.

Locally our operations are governed by a voluntary 9-member board with appointees from the three Presbyterian Presbyteries in our region, other board members are elected from the general community.

Our services are available to all those in need regardless of their background, although many of our supporters are Presbyterian Church members and we do have Presbytery appointees on our board.
