Presbyterian Support welcomes prospect of sustainable service provision
The Government funding package for community social service providers announced yesterday will allow Presbyterian Support Northern to better meet the needs of families and communities.
Presbyterian Support Northern, through its child and family service division Family Works, provides a variety of services to families from Taupo to Whangarei.
“At the moment many of the core services families need, such as parenting support, family violence assistance, social work and counselling, must be topped up by fundraising and donations,” said Dr Rod Watts, Chief Executive.
“We really welcome the move to fully funded core services. This will make our current services more secure and sustainable and also means we can use donated funds to extend the reach of our services and meet unmet needs.”
“Communities as a whole will benefit from receiving better resourced services, and also from the knowledge that the services are secure and will be there when they need them.”
Presbyterian Support Northern is particularly pleased to see the Government put an emphasis on more funding for services that are preventative or intervene early, such as the Family Works parenting programme, Incredible Years.
“If families can access services before they have reached crisis level, outcomes are so much better for everyone, and we can stop further problems from developing,” said Dr Watts.
Presbyterian Support Northern looks forward to hearing more details about the funding and how Government will work with organisations to implement the funding package.
