Family Works Northern

Family Works Northern is the child and family services division of Presbyterian Support Northern.

Please note: This page provides summary information only. More detailed information is available on the national Family Works website (www.familyworks.org.nz) or via the hyperlinks below.

We offer a range of services, programmes and community development initiatives from 11 community-based centres and numerous schools throughout our region, from Whangarei to Turangi.

Our staff work alongside children/tamariki (0-17 years) and their families/whanau, supporting them to make positive, lasting differences in the lives.

Family Works Northern offers:

We have service centres in Whangarei, Auckland, East Auckland, Waitakere, North ShoreManukau, Waikato, Rotorua, Western Bay of Plenty, Eastern Bay of Plenty and Taupo.

Under the Government-funded Social Workers in Schools programme we have 22 social workers operating in 44 schools in our region.

Our areas of focus include:

  • increasing confidence and self-esteem
  • overcoming problematic behaviour
  • further developing parenting skills
  • coping with grief and loss
  • making blended families work
  • overcoming the effects of abuse

We use a strengths-based approach and offer support to all in the community regardless of race, beliefs or background.

Children and families are referred to our service from government and/or community agencies, schools or health professionals - or they self-refer.

After initial discussion and needs assessment Family Works Northern will assist children and/or families to develop a plan to achieve the outcome(s) they want.

Families are asked to make a voluntary contribution/koha towards the provision of our services and programmes.
