Greetings –

Cranford Hospice has a new Executive Director, Mr Barry Keane. Barry is currently the Director of Clinical Services at Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North having previously been in the role of Nurse Manager.

“People are very excited about this appointment” said Shaun Robinson CEO of Presbyterian Support who operate Cranford. “Barry Keane is a person of considerable mana and experience within palliative care. He has played a pivitol role in developing region-wide palliative care partnerships at Arohanui and has been a leader in implementing international best practice such as the Liverpool Care of the Dying Pathway for patients and families.”

“Barry is also well known at the national level having made significant contributions through such activities as the Ministry of Health Cancer Treatment Working Party and the Palliative Care Advisory Group” said Mr Robinson.

“I am really looking forward to participating in the next steps of Cranford’s journey” Mr Keane said. “Cranford Hospice has always had a strong reputation in the palliative care field and I understand it has huge support and commitment from the people of the Hawke’s Bay. I consider it a privilege to have such a role in the extension of palliative care for the people of this region”

Mr Keane will take up his role in February 2008.

I am very happy to announce that we have also recruited an excellent person for the Nursing Directors position at Cranford Hospice. Sandra Sanderson currently resides in Scotland where she has extensive experience in palliative care in hands-on and leadership positions. Sandra has a masters degree in Palliative Care nursing and is qualified as a nurse prescriber in the UK. Sandra also has qualifications and experience in management and nurse education. Sandra is married with two teenage children.

Additiopnally we have recruited a new Medical Director Dr Mike Harris who is currently working at Arohanui Hospice. Mike will quality as a Palliative Care specialist in Feb. He is a mature man in his fifties who has experience as a GP and a rest home manager and has a very community focused clinical philosophy.

We now have a truly excellent team in the key roles at Cranford. Barry Keane the Executive Director takes up his role in Feb, Dr Mike Harris joins as Medical Director in March and Sandra will start at a similar time dependent on immigration and registration details.
